There are a
lot of people, including me, that don’t like speaking in front of a class.
It is basically
every student’s nightmare. When
you are standing there you get nervous and begin to think about things where
you don’t have to think about at all. In some cases you begin to sweat and your
voice begins to vibrate. We all don’t like this, so I wrote down some tips that
can prevent these awkward situations.
It is important to be prepared. Do not look up the subject the night before the big day, but as soon as you know you have task. It would make it a lot easier.
Tip 2:
know what you are talking about
look up
enough information about your subject. If you want to avoid the awkward
silences when somebody asks you a question and you don’t know anything about
it, then it is better to write down more information than needed.
Tip 3:
Practice
One of the
most important things is practice. You can practice in front of a mirror, and
delete things of your notes that aren’t necessary. Or you can ask a couple of
friends to listen at you while you speak. And after the speaking ask them what
you could do better.
Tip 4:
talk with someone
You can
talk with your mother for example. Ask her how she prepared for tasks like this
and how she experienced talking in front of the class. Or you can talk with
your teaching about not being comfortable in those situation. And maybe your
teacher can give you some tips.
Tip 5:
Don’t stress
Don’t
stress before your speaking and during. Just have fun and enjoy the attention
you get. Also important: don’t mumble! The other students won’t understand you,
and will get distracted. And last but not least: have some self-confidence.
